Seven Iranians have been charged with conducting what the U.S. Justice Department has called a coordinated series of cyberattacks on 46 major companies between 2011 and 2013. One of those defendants has been charged for allegedly hacking the computer systems controlling a dam in Rye, N.Y. The cyberattacks mostly disabled bank websites, prevented customers from accessing their accounts online and cost the victim entities tens of millions of dollars in efforts to neutralize the intrusions, federal prosecutors charged.
